Usually pro trunks or square cuts, and with boots, wrestling shoes or converse hi tops ... cause I’m just not a barefoot guy either. I think also that boots (non slip) give an extra bit of pressure for straight scissors ... works for me. And certainly flexible for those who have strong preferences.
